Harold Residency Program

Deadline: April 30, 2008

Harold Arts is a non-profit arts organization based in Chicago, IL, which seeks to revitalize and recontextualize personal artistic processes by establishing an alternative environment to traditional arts education institutions.

Our annual intensive arts residency takes place on the Jeffers Tree Farm outside of Chesterhill, OH, and is devoted to fostering the collaborative and interdisciplinary endeavors of new, emerging and mid-career artists.  For one or two week sessions in July, artists enter into a dialogue with their colleagues to collaborate on new projects and refine their own practices. The residency staff work to facilitate collaborative projects developed by residents as well as offer potential project ideas. The programming provides group discussions, critiques, concerts, and lectures involving residents, staff, and guest artists/speakers.

Harold Arts musicians come to the residency to compose, rehearse, record, practice, and perform in a beautiful and secluded location.  The music programming allows residents to collaborate and improvise in a variety of settings as well as create multi-media works in conjunction with visual artists.  Residents will have access to a recording studio run by engineers dedicated to documenting performances and collaborating on studio projects.

Deadline is April 30, 2008

LA MAISON JAUNE is a residency program initiated in 2007 by PATRICIA LOW CONTEMPORARY, Gstaad, Switzerland. In a hamlet not far from where Balthus has lived and worked all his life, artists will be hosted in a beautiful 18th century chalet called "La Maison Jaune". There, facing the mountains, we hope they will find inspiration and renew Gstaad's link with the great artists of our time.

The MAISON JAUNE residency program provides living and working opportunities for emerging international artists in all media of the visual arts (e.g. painting, sculpture, photography, performance, new media). The fellowship includes production costs up to CHF 3.000 per artist upon request.

The chalet which is located 10 minutes outside of Gstaad offers generous living spaces and working facilities for 3 artists at a time. The studio is next to the chalet in a barn. Artists are generally invited for a period of 4-6 weeks. The work created there will be exhibited in a show at the gallery or at La Maison Jaune shortly thereafter. Also, in an effort to record this unique artistic process, a book will be developed with a renowned publisher.

Applications:
The program is dedicated to international artists up to 35 years old or artists who have completed their university or college degree within the past five years (and are not currently enrolled).

We are now inviting artists to apply for monthly residencies in Gstaad for the period between September 2008 and August 2009. The deadline is April 30, 2008. Late applications are considered on a case-by-case basis. A small jury consisting of the gallery owner Patricia Low, and internationally renowned curators, museums directors and collectors will select the fellows.

Residency Program: Working with Older Adults

Center on Age and Community, University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee
Deadline: May 15th, 2008.

The only program of its kind in the country, the three-month Residency in Applied Arts was designed to encourage artists to apply their talents to working with older adults. This pioneering new initiative will link established artists from all disciplines to the rapidly growing field of elder care. Projects address the quality of life of people with dementia and raise public awareness about their capacities.  The residency carries a $20,000 stipend, with additional funds for housing, travel, and supplies.

The Residency in Applied Arts is part of CAC's larger Creativity and Culture Initiative, the goals of which are to increase thoughtful, diverse representations of aging and to increase the number of applied arts projects geared toward older adults. The arts and humanities have been shown to expand communication and improve the quality of life for people with dementia and those who care for them. They also enable older adults to develop a sense of mastery and control, to build skills, and to participate in culture at large.

We are now accepting applications for the 2009 Residency in Applied Arts.  Applications are due May 15th, 2008.
