Andersonville’s
Swedish American MuseumDeadline: Friday, Aug. 22 (but see special instructions below)*
In an ongoing effort to engage the local arts community, Andersonville’s
Swedish American Museum, in collaboration with the Andersonville
Chamber of Commerce, is seeking artists to create an original work of
art, in any medium, inspired by an object from the Museum’s permanent
collection. Interested artists must fill out an application outlining
their interest in the project and provide samples of previous work.
Entries will be evaluated by a jury committee and 10-12 will be
selected to create pieces for display at the Museum during the 6th
annual Andersonville Arts Weekend, Oct. 3-5, 2008. One completed piece
will be selected for use as the visual artwork for all promotional
materials related to Andersonville Arts Weekend, a part of Chicago
Artists Month. In addition, at least one artist will be submitted to
the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs as a candidate to be a
featured artist for the Chicago Artists Month event in October 2008.
Featured artists receive a wide array of exposure through the promotion
of the event and at special events throughout the month.
TIMELINE
The application will be available beginning Monday, April 7. It can
be obtained by contacting the Museum or Chamber of Commerce, or by
visiting
www.andersonville.org. Completed applications with samples of
previous work are due by Friday, May 16. The jury will convene in late
May, at which time the participating artists will be selected. On the
evening of Thursday, May 29, the Museum will host an informational
event for the participating artists to introduce the Museum, allow
artists to select an object from their collection on which to base the
artwork, and take promotional photos which will be displayed at the
Museum during the annual Midsommarfest street festival June 14-15. To
be considered for the Andersonville Arts Weekend cover art, completed
pieces will be due by Friday, Aug. 22. Otherwise all completed pieces
will need to be into the Museum by Friday, Sept. 26. The pieces will be
on display from Andersonville Arts Weekend through Oct. 31.

Lineweight is a curated exhibition of contemporary drawing to be
displayed at the Truman State University Art Gallery in Kirksville, MO
in January and February 2009. A CD-ROM catalog will be produced to
document the show and participating artists will receive an honorarium.

mind’s processes.

Seton Hall University’s Walsh Gallery in collaboration with Gallery
Aferro is accepting submissions for inclusion in a solo show, One
Breath, by artist Beth Ann Morrison to be on view June 9 – July 31,
2008. Morrison’s environmental installation will invite viewers to
relax within soothing, rounded forms, ethereal lighting and
soundscapes. This un-juried call is open to everyone – professional
artists and amateurs alike. All work submitted will be displayed as a
complement to the exhibition, allowing viewers to see their world-wide
neighbor’s personal interpretations of a paradise on earth. The artist
is interested in intuitive images that result from meditation on the
ultimate peace, love and joy – a higher reality. $10 per entry, must be

BIKE LOVE [a graphic celebration of the bicycle]

The Coffee Studio: Andersonville, Chicago
The Coffee Studio is
seeking artists to submit cycle-inspired two-dimensional artwork for
BIKE LOVE, a graphic celebration of the the bicycle, to be exhibited in
coordination with Andersonville Bike Week.
- Accepted artwork will be on display from May 10-June 9 at The Coffee Studio.
- An artists' reception and Bike Week celebration will be held at The Coffee Studio on the evening of Friday, May 16th.
Submission Details
Artwork submissions can be photos, slides, electronic files or a website address or link and can be emailed to art@thecoffeestudio.com
or dropped off at The Coffee Studio, 5628 N. Clark (6.30am to 9pm
everyday). All pieces must be two-dimensional and less than 4' feet
wide (and approx 5' max. height). Artists may submit multiple pieces.
The
deadline for submissions is May 1st (Thursday). Artwork will be
selected for display based on relevance, diversity and space available.
Accepted
pieces must be delivered to The Coffee Studio by May 8th in
"ready-to-hang" condition. The exhibit will be on display through June
9th (pieces should be picked up by Thursday, June 12th).
We are
happy to coordinate any artwork sales. Proceeds of a 10% commission
will be donated to the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation.

Art, Fact, and Artifact: The Book in Time and Place
January 8-10, 2009
Hosted by the University of Iowa Center for the Book
The art of the book has been at once visionary and documentary,
imagining a future that has yet to exist while finding inspiration from
the resources of the past. The first biennial conference of the College
Book Art Association seeks to bridge the worlds of book art, book
history, cultural criticism, and curatorial work through appreciation
of the book as an aesthetic sensorium.
Along with session programming, the conference agenda will include
exhibits, tours of facilities, open discussion time, and portfolio
review.
For the conference program, the organizers invite submissions for
individual presentations, pre-formed panels, and studio demonstrations.

An International Competitive Exhibit of Small Works

Every year Manifest calls for little
works of art from around the world. Like short poetry, they are a
challenge to craft with the same presence of their larger counterparts.
Each exhibit brings in hundreds of powerful yet diminutive masterpieces
for our jury to mull over. Inevitably we end up with a gallery full of
diverse, compelling, and exquisite little gems. Manifest’s patrons
eagerly await the Magnitude SEVEN event each year. So without further
ado, we offer this call to artists to submit works no larger than seven
inches in any dimension (any proportion). Standard presentation devices
like mats and frames that are not considered part of the work of art
are not limited by the 7" criteria.
Eligibility: entries must represent original
works no larger than 7"x7".
Media: Open to all traditional and non-traditional genre and media.
Catalog:
Manifest will produce a full-color catalog documenting the work in
MAGNITUDE SEVEN. Exhibitors will receive a 50% discount on one copy of
the catalog. For examples of past catalogs visit Manifest Press.
Entry Fee: Each work submitted must be accompanied by a $10 non-refundable
entry fee. Number of entries is unlimited. Entry fee must be paid

of this exhibition "One Planet, One Experiment" is inspired by E.O.
Wilson (Edward Osborne Wilson,) US entomologist, ecologist and
sociobiologist (1929–.) In The Diversity of Life (1992) and The Future
of Life (2001), Wilson examined the threat to biodiversity posed by
human activity.
The idea of our planet as an experiment isn't how we usually think of
it. Woman Made Gallery invites environmentally themed work in any media
except video by women from the international community. Images of up to
three artworks plus one detail image per submission if needed. Please
include a statement about the submitted work and a $24 entry fee. Entry

Jurors: Lynda Cole and Leslie Sobel
Lynda Cole received a B.S. in Textiles and Clothing Design from
Michigan State University after which she lived and worked in New York
City. She attended the University of Michigan to study Botany. From
1976 to 1990 she ran her own landscaping company. From 1990 to 1995 she
lived in England experimenting with 3-D forms made of new materials and
developing her art. She shows work nationally and is a member of WSG
Gallery in Ann Arbor, MI.
Leslie Sobel is an artist working with her relationship to the natural
world. She is interested in the intersection between artistic, personal
understanding and scientific knowledge. Her work incorporates data and
scientific visualization alongside painting, words and mixed media. She
exhibits her work nationally and has most recently curated H2O, a
digital & mixed media group exhibition. She is one of the founders
of the Art Alchemists, a collective of artists who use digital
technology in some aspect of their art making.
Awards: 1st Prize: Solo Show at WMG; 2nd Prize: Website with 20 images at www.womanmade.net; 3rd Prize: Gallery Membership.
